Wild Whens «For the night to last»

FOR THE NIGHT TO LAST is a story about severe insomnia and what it can do to a person. This man has been struggling for a good night’s sleep for so long that he has lost himself in some kind of an alternate reality.

Every night, he goes to bed dog tired, and he can barely keep his eyes open. But someone, or something, is refusing Mr Sandman to enter. The longer this goes on anxiety and hallucinations kicks in. All of a sudden he’s actually afraid to fall asleep, because he now believes something terrible will happen if he does. He can sense the piercing eyes of a vulture just waiting for him to lose attention and drift away. And he can feel the heat of the flames below just waiting for him to miss a step and fall down from the wire he’s juggling on.

He can no longer function like a normal person. His brain has basically shut down and he can’t do his job properly anymore. Interactions has become a real struggle. Social phobia as result. And the daylight hurts his eyes. So even though he can’t fall asleep he’s now longing for the night, and hoping for it to last forever. Every time.
