My Daddy worked on merchant shipshe sailed the seas of China and Japan
He was a ramblin' man
He stayed away for 50 weeks
My mama raised the family alone
till we all were grown
When he`d come home
he'd see me with my guitar
He knew that I was reaching for a star
He always wanted me to seek
a steady job in a factory
I guess he saw too much of him in me
My Daddy worked on merchant ships
he was a poet writing every day
by the midnight waves
he would send me poetry
the things he'd feel and see
but could not say
to me face to face
He drank a bit,his soul was like the north wind
He might have wondered what he could have been
Now that he's gone,I've come to see
why he reacted angrily-I guess he saw
too much of him in me
An apple never falls far from the tree
I guess he saw too much of him in me
